About the Role
The Sanctions Officer will be responsible for managing risks related to international sanctions within the Corporate Business of this speciality insurance firm. The role ensures compliance with national and international sanctions regulations while safeguarding the company’s reputation.
Reporting to the UK Branch Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and MLRO, as well as the corporate Head of Anti-Financial Crime (AFC), the successful candidate will play a key role in providing oversight and advisory support on sanctions-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert advisory support to the UK Branch on international sanctions risks, ensuring alignment with Group Policies and Guidelines.
* Escalate significant matters, including potential breaches requiring regulatory notification, to the UK Branch CCO, MLRO, and Head of AFC.
* Offer guidance on the interpretation and application of international sanctions regulations within the business.
* Monitor developments in international sanctions laws and inform the business of their potential impact.
* Conduct risk assessments and second-level controls in line with Group-level methodologies and standards.
* Act as a key stakeholder in strategic projects involving sanctions-related considerations, ensuring compliance with Group Policies and Guidelines.
* Collaborate with the business on internal and external audits and regulatory inspections.
* Oversee the drafting and adaptation of local policies and procedures relevant to sanctions compliance.
* Prepare a quarterly report for the Head of AFC, summarizing key risks and remediation measures.
* Provide periodic updates to the CCO, Head of AFC, and Group functions on business-as-usual (BAU) activities.
* Deliver regular training to employees on international sanctions regulations and internal policies.
Required Experience & Skills
* Minimum 5 years of experience in non-life commercial insurance within a second-line function.
* Strong knowledge of international sanctions laws and regulations, particularly across EU, UK, and US regimes.
* A demonstrated interest in building expertise within sanctions compliance.
* Degree in law, finance, insurance, trade, or related fields. Bonus: ACAMs, ICA, CII or similar accreditations.
