Ysgol Cambrian is a brand new 3–19 Additional Learning Needs (ALN) school opening in September 2026. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding, reflective and aspirational teacher who will also take on the roles of Key Stage 2 Leader and designated Area of Learning and Experience (AoLE) Lead, aligned to their professional expertise.

This is a rare opportunity to join the founding leadership structure of a new school and play a key role in shaping curriculum, pedagogy and provision for learners with ALN from the outset.

Applicants should clearly state in their application:

their experience and interest in leading Key Stage 2, and

the Area(s) of Learning and Experience in which they have particular strengths or leadership potential.

The Role

The successful candidate will fulfil three interconnected responsibilities:

Class Teacher

Deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching to learners within Key Stage 2, meeting a wide range of additional learning needs

Create a structured, engaging and supportive learning environment that promotes wellbeing, communication and independence

Use person-centred approaches, effective assessment and adaptive pedagogy to support learner progress

Key Stage 2 Leader

Provide strategic and operational leadership for Key Stage 2 across the school

Lead on KS2 pedagogy, provision, assessment and progression in line with the Curriculum for Wales

Ensure continuity and progression from Foundation Phase into KS2 and beyond

Support colleagues in developing high-quality KS2 practice

Monitor standards, contribute to self-evaluation and drive continuous improvement within the phase

Designated AoLE Lead

Lead a specified Area of Learning and Experience, reflecting the post-holder’s expertise

Oversee curriculum design, progression and assessment within the AoLE across relevant age ranges

Support and mentor colleagues to develop confidence and consistency within the AoLE

Ensure AoLE provision is inclusive, coherent and responsive to the needs of learners with ALN

In addition, the post-holder will:

Work collaboratively with senior leaders, ALN specialists and external agencies

Contribute to whole-school development, planning and evaluation as part of the school’s founding leadership team

We are looking for a candidate who:

Is an excellent classroom practitioner with experience of teaching learners with ALN, particularly within KS2

Has a strong understanding of KS2 pedagogy, child development and progression

Demonstrates a secure understanding of the Curriculum for Wales, including progression and assessment

Has leadership experience or clear leadership potential

Is committed to inclusive, person-centred and trauma-informed practice

Has the vision, creativity and resilience to help establish a new school

Can build strong, positive relationships with learners, families, staff and professionals

We offer:

A unique opportunity to help establish and shape a brand new 3–19 ALN school

A supportive, collaborative and forward-thinking leadership team

Meaningful leadership responsibility with scope for professional growth

A strong culture of wellbeing, inclusion and high expectations

10% leadership (non-contact) time each week to fulfil these duties
