Company overview
Our client is a globally recognised, independent real estate and infrastructure consultancy with a strong UK footprint and a well-established presence across Yorkshire. The business is experiencing sustained growth and is delivering several nationally significant programmes backed by major public and private investment.
Their work spans infrastructure, real estate and complex industrial developments, supporting projects that are critical to the UK’s long-term energy security, defence capability and advanced manufacturing base. Known for their technical rigour, collaborative delivery model and people-first culture, they are consistently trusted to act on some of the UK’s most high-profile and complex schemes.
As part of continued growth on a flagship industrial programme, they are now seeking an experienced NEC Supervisor/Senior Clerk of Works to join an established site team and play a pivotal role in overseeing delivery on a highly secure, technically demanding manufacturing and infrastructure development.
The opportunity
This role sits within a once-in-a-generation industrial transformation programme, supporting the redevelopment and expansion of a world-class manufacturing facility incorporating Industry 4.0 technologies.
The programme includes extensive enabling and infrastructure works, with significant civil engineering and utilities scope. Works include large-scale trenching and ducting, reinforced concrete foundations and bases, HV cable routes, earthing systems and new substation infrastructure, all delivered within a live, highly regulated industrial environment.
As NEC Supervisor, you will act as the client’s on-site quality and compliance authority under the NEC contract, ensuring that works are constructed safely, in accordance with the Works Information, and to the required technical and quality standards.
You will work closely with the Project Manager, contractors, engineers and wider technical stakeholders, playing a key role in managing interfaces, identifying defects, assuring workmanship and maintaining robust site records. The role also includes leadership responsibility for a small on-site inspection team, typically comprising two inspectors or Clerks of Works.
This position may suit an experienced Senior Clerk of Works stepping into a formal NEC Supervisor role, or an established NEC Supervisor operating at Associate level, seeking involvement in a nationally important programme with long-term impact.
The role

* Lead and coordinate a small on-site inspection team, providing oversight, guidance and quality assurance
* Supervise and inspect civil engineering works including earthworks, excavations, trenching, ducting, reinforced concrete and reinstatement
* Oversee civils associated with high-voltage power infrastructure, including cable routes, foundations, earthing and substation interfaces
* Inspect works against drawings, specifications and Works Information, identifying non-conformances and defects
* Issue defect notifications and instructions under NEC and confirm satisfactory rectification
* Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with health and safety, quality and technical standards
* Interface with contractors, designers, engineers and client representatives to resolve site issues efficiently
* Maintain accurate inspection records, reports and photographic evidence in line with NEC processes and audit requirements
Requirements
* Proven experience as an NEC Supervisor, Senior Clerk of Works, or in a comparable site-based quality and inspection role
* Strong technical background in civil engineering, utilities or heavy infrastructure
* Demonstrable experience inspecting trenching, ducting, concrete and infrastructure works
* Exposure to HV power infrastructure and/or substation works is highly desirable
* Sound understanding of NEC contracts and defect management processes
* Experience operating within secure or regulated environments is advantageous
* Security clearance, or the ability to obtain security clearance, is essential
* Confident, professional communicator with the ability to challenge and engage contractors constructively
* Highly organised, detail-driven and comfortable operating as the client’s on-site representative
