Currently, the team is looking for individuals with practical skills, ideally in gardening and/or woodworking. The rehabilitation of patients involves learning new skills and engaging in meaningful activities.
Staff working in these areas enjoy working with people and understand that adults take time to learn new skills.
You will work with a minimum of three other staff members in each session, assisting patients with simple tasks that provide a sense of achievement.
In the woodworking area, tasks may include constructing bird boxes, jigsaw cutting, wood turning on a lathe, or pyrography engraving.
In the horticultural area, activities could involve working in the greenhouse or allotment, such as seeding, weeding, and grass cutting.
You will always work with two other staff members who have good knowledge of patients diagnosed with severe mental illness or personality disorder.
This is a face-to-face, practical role that also involves taking session notes and maintaining patient records.
The aim of the service is to engage, support, and develop patients as part of their recovery through meaningful therapeutic activities.
The RTS assistant will be part of a close team providing a range of activities to help patients develop work skills, including personal organization, time management, concentration, following instructions, and copying tasks.
Skills are developed through activities such as woodcraft, picture framing, professional printing, and gardening.
Staff in this role need to engage with patients and staff effectively and support the work ability sessions. Being able to learn practical tasks easily and communicate well are important qualities.
