Summary: Train and observe Union personnel in the operation of RIAC vehicles, heavy equipment and job-related tools. Observe and ensure compliance in the use of job-related tools in accordance with RIAC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards and operating procedures.
Shift: Monday – Friday 6:00am – 2:00 pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned; the essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
• Trains and observes Union equipment operators using RIAC vehicles and tools to ensure proper usage and minimize the risk of injury, equipment damage, and property loss.
• Maintains training records of vehicle and equipment operators.
• Assists in providing Health and Safety training for all RIAC Union maintenance personnel in accordance with OSHA safety standards.
• Educates and ensures RIAC Union personnel understand the proper use of job-related tools in accordance with RIAC and Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) safety standards and operating procedures.
• Documents and reports safety issues to the supervisor along with proposed action plans to resolve the safety concerns. With approval from supervisor, ensures proper resolution of safety issues.
• Documents and reports employee safety violations to supervisor for necessary action.
• Operates light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment to include, but not limited to, power sweepers, dump body trucks, tractors, backhoes, front end loaders and other specialized snow removal equipment, as required.
• Performs snow and ice removal as directed.
• Strictly adheres to security provisions at all times, including entrance and egress from gates.
• Uses two-way radio equipment to coordinate with other company personnel and to ensure compliance with aircraft movement area operations and air traffic control procedures, utilizing approved aviation terminology.
• Must be readily available and willing to report to work during winter storm events and as required for emergency response.
• Must be willing and able to mutually agree to alter shift schedule for training purposes as necessary.
• Other related duties may be assigned.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Special qualifications include:
• Must possess a thorough knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Must possess a thorough knowledge of OSHA safety standards and operating procedures.
• Demonstrate experience in formal training relating to OSHA safety standards and/or heavy equipment operations.
• Ability to instruct multiple personnel in a classroom environment.
• Possess at all times, and prior to being hired or transferred, a valid Rhode Island CDL Class A License which must be maintained as a condition of employment. Employee must also maintain motor vehicle insurability as a condition of continued employment.
• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Must be capable of achieving and maintaining Movement Area vehicle operator authorization which must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
• Possess a basic knowledge of general maintenance methods routinely utilized at an airport.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Must be able to successfully achieve and maintain an airport security clearance to access the airfield and airport terminal building which must be maintained as a condition of continued employment
• Must be computer literate. Be able to use Microsoft Office products and conduct Internet research.
• Must be willing to work outside of normally scheduled work hours, in accordance with the CBA, to perform specific tasks as required.
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Five years’ recent demonstrable experience operating/servicing heavy motor equipment required.
• Powered Industrial Truck License .
• Experience in grounds maintenance and snow removal operations at a 14 CFR Part 139 airport required.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
• CDL Class A License required which must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
• Hoisting/Engineer Certificate (Limited) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
• Completion of OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 within the past two (2) years required, additional OSHA training .
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
• Ability to travel on various types of terrain;
• May be exposed to all elements of weather;
• Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds;
• Considerable walking while performing inspections;
• Ability to physically traverse heavy equipment including ambulating in and out of equipment;
• Prolonged work on a computer at a desk

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.
• Extremes of heat, cold, wind, dust, and dampness may be encountered as the work is usually performed outdoors year round.
• Runways and taxiways may heighten the need for visual and aural acuity.
• The use of safety equipment such as but not limited to seatbelt restraints, hard hats, goggles, safety vest and/or garment shall be routinely required.
