Band 7 (Trainee) Progression post
The department is commitment to developing a highly experienced nursing team with clear progression opportunities. We are excited to offer the opportunity for a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner(tACP) Post within HIV OPD department at RSCH
The ACP role will integrate into the medical and nursing team to deliver the service for people living with HIV in Brighton and Hove.The qualified ACP will be expected to make complex, autonomous decisions utilising expert knowledge within a supportive team. The trainee role will be supported while they undertake the relevant training required to to develop into the role. There are established ACP structures across the Trust to provide supervision and peer support.
The trainee ACP will undertake an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice including physical assessment and prescribing. Candidates with equivalent qualifications will need to undertake Acute Care Assessment Tool (ACAT) accreditation and to complete the advanced practice e-learning portfolio via NHS England. Once the ACAT accreditation is approved, the post-holder will be seconded to an 8a role until completion of the e-portfolio. Funding and 20% non-clinical time will be provided to undertake the MSc/complete e-portfolio.
There will be funding for additional hours to increase this post to 32 hours/week following successful recruitment
Main duties of the job
Trainee ACP posts will be expected to reflect the four pillars of advanced practice: Clinical Practice, Leadership, Education of self and others, and Research & Development.
1. Work to develop a high level of personal and professional autonomy, using specialist knowledge and skills to deliver independent assessment, clinical examination, diagnosis, clinical decision making and planning of care and treatment, health promotion and safe admission and discharge of patients.
• This may include supervised on-call/out-of-hours and in-hours/bleep-holding responsibilities, as part of the agreed job plan and depending on role in department.
• Undertake the training to act as an independent non-medical prescriber, where applicable to role/profession.
2. Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to provide best clinical care, emotional and psychological support and education to patients and their carers.
3. Facilitate evidence based practice, and promote and undertake research and clinical audit within the service and across the Trust. Design and provide clinical/practical and theory-based education and training, eg. to nurses/AHPs, junior medical staff.
4. Work with innovation and flexibility to adapt to a fast-changing speciality, and work towards playing an integral role in the operational/strategic development of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria. For example, applicants for the Senior HCA role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same role to qualify for sponsorship.

1. The post holder will need to learn to receive/provide highly complex and sensitive information relating to patient care (eg. from colleagues, patients, carers and relatives). Communicate clearly, concisely and accurately, engage patients and colleagues with tact and empathy, and interact with sensitivity with patients and relatives/carers where barriers to communication may exist (this may involve using the interpreting service for patients with language barriers
2. Lead and participate in patient communication with regard to clinical prognosis assisting and supporting patients to formulate individualised plans of care
3. Ensure good communication and develop effective working relationships with staff at all levels across the Trust to ensure service delivery is maintained to the highest standard
4. Act as professional role model, providing advice and support to all staff working in the speciality, including medical and other students and trainees, nurses and doctors commensurate with tACP. Demonstrate the Trust Values & Behaviours in own day to day work, reinforcing positive behaviours that reflect our values, and challenge undesirable behaviour constructively and with positive intent
5. Undertake knowledge and skills to contribute to service developments and planning (eg. identification of best practice nationally and internationally, opportunities for new and extended services, improvement and innovation in service provision) as part of the Trust business development, service efficiency and strategic planning processes
6. Develop and maintain and develop own theoretical knowledge, clinical experience, clinical competence and professional development through eg. self-education, regular clinical supervision, soliciting feedback, and active participation in the Trust appraisal and professional revaluation processes. Maintain own professional portfolio and Personal Development Plan
7. Develop advanced skills to work as an autonomous practitioner, liaising with all members of the multidisciplinary team in order to provide clinical expertise, emotional and psychological support and education to patients and their carers
8. To develop skills to independently assess, plan, implement and evaluate care delivered to own caseload of patients following attainment of competency
9. Develop and maintain a knowledge base that reflects contemporary issues and therefore be able to autonomously select and apply the most appropriate treatment regime
10. Work closely and network with other nursing teams, clinical educators and health professional specialists to share practice and provide a uniformly high standard of care

14. IRMER or willing to undertake (Imaging Referral by Non- Medical Healthcare Professionals) training complete

16. Degree/ evidence of recent studies at Level 6
17. Experience of working at a senior level in specialist area
