The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors as they are responsible for 24% of UK Greenhouse Gas emissions. They will need to fully decarbonise by 2050 while doubling electricity production. Concerns about energy security provide additional pressures to quickly transition to new sustainable sources of power, while maximising domestic sources of energy.
Through effective regulation, we must ensure that energy sectors protect people and the environment from emissions, as well as mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents by being available to provide incident support or business continuity during an incident.
* Lead the definition of standards for the energy sectors, providing strategic direction, tools, guidance and training to deliver new duties and environmental best practice.
Qualifications
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role in question, gained either by working within and/or regulating relevant processes, including control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.

It would be anticipated that this role would require some travel.
