Are you a psychology graduate passionate about supporting children with special educational needs (SEN)? Are you considering a career in autism specialism, educational psychology, clinical psychology, or child and adolescent mental health? This Learning Support Assistant role in Swinton offers an excellent foundation.
You’ll be working across the SEN departments of mainstream secondary schools providing support to children ages 11 to 16 with mild to high-support autism, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and complex needs. The school will provide a creative and inclusive environment that supports development through communication and structured learning.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll:
1. Support pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis across a range of complex needs
2. Help children develop communication, emotional regulation, and independence skills
3. Work alongside therapists, SEN coordinators, and multidisciplinary teams
4. Gain exposure to therapeutic practices in action
This role is ideal for aspiring autism specialists or graduates seeking meaningful SEN experience before pursuing postgraduate training or assistant psychologist positions.
