Overview
We are looking for a maternity cover for a fixed term contract of 12 months starting in November 2025 to join our gastroenterology Dietetic team as a band 6 Gastroenterology specialist Dietitian.
Based at Royal Blackburn Hospital, the post is part of the Gastroenterology Dietetic team within the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust. Clinical support and supervision will be available from the band 7 Specialist Dietitian as well as band 6 Specialist Dietitian peers in the team.
Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of adult Gastroenterology patients with complex needs using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
* Work with inpatient wards and outpatient clinics; attend Consultant ward rounds and MDT meetings.
* Collaborate closely with the Gastroenterology MDT; contribute to a well-established dietetic led adult Coeliac clinic with weekly consultant MDTs.
* Participate in IBD MDTs and manage a large number of patients on polymeric diets.
* Deliver IBS services using a mix of online resources, group sessions and one-to-one clinics for first and second line dietary advice.
* Assess, implement and monitor complex nutrition regimes including enteral nutrition and parenteral nutrition.
* Triage and manage an outpatient caseload with support from a booking team and clinical support workers.
* Take part in clinical student training for Dietitians, Medical Students and other Health Care Professionals.
Team and Setting
You would be joining a team of 4 Gastroenterology Specialist Dietitians. This post is based at our Royal Blackburn Hospital site and offers clinical support from the wider Trust Nutrition Team. The Gastroenterology Dietetic team is part of the wider Acute Adult team at East Lancashire Hospitals. The department has a large Digestive Diseases unit with multiple Gastroenterologists, IBD nurses, Liver nurses and Endoscopists, and is known for innovation, development and training.
Training and Resources
East Lancashire Hospitals Trust is a teaching hospital. The Dietetic department provides placements for Dietetic students and collaborates with Chester University, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Central Lancashire. Electronic patient record systems are in place (Cerner in inpatient settings and EMIS in community settings).
Requirements and Preferences
* Ideally, Gastroenterology skills are required; however suitable transferable skills such as parental nutrition management will be considered.
* Experience with managing complex nutrition regimes, including enteral and parenteral nutrition, is desirable.
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and participate in MDTs and student training.
