External Job Description About the Role
The main purpose of the role is to define the process of manufacture for the value stream unit in order to meet internal and external customer requirements, ensuring the quality and delivery of all products within budgeted costs. Responsible for the development of the process of manufacturing and/or assembly of components into finished goods.
This is a core role as part of the Value Stream team, which is fundamental in providing engineering support to develop quality products on time and on cost, whilst driving continuous improvement through effective management and controls.
Role and Responsibility
Health, Safety & Environment
Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental compliance
Ensure the appropriate focus is placed on behavioural safety
Identify, manage and eradicate risks concerning HSE
Develop safe systems of work, and provide appropriate PPE
Ensure training of mandatory HSE topics has been undertaken by the team
Introduce opportunities to minimise the environmental impact of the value stream unit
Operate at all times in accordance with the Quality Management Systems
Ensure processes and procedures are known, understood, monitored and controlled
Develop processes of Manufacture to ensure products are consistent with the technical definition
Manage preventive and corrective actions and verify their effectiveness
Develop and implement an improvement plan in order to reduce the level of non-quality
Support the introduction of APQP and PFMEA approaches
Cost
Work within and adhere to budgets (engineering costs, indirect costs & consumables)
Ensure the target productivity level is achieved and continuously improved
Prepare product costings and quotations
Generate and maintain work measurement systems for direct activities (Most)
Manage projects in line with project budgets
Drive waste out of the production line process
Delivery
Manage the industrialisation of new products in line with the NPD process
Research, design and develop new processes and identify new equipment
Ensure compliance with both internal and external protocols and regulations
Design new digital solutions to support manufacturing (Andon, systems, hardware)
Monitor equipment effectiveness using statistical process control, and provide expert oversight of processes being deployed
Design, create and maintain programs for automated assets
Adhere to the engineering change process for all product and process changes
Create and validate standard operating procedures, work instructions, quality control points and methods of inspection
Ensure that effective plant, equipment and tooling solutions are in place
Ensure the reliability of assets, and that TPM processes are in place
Provide line support to the unit to ensure OTIF at target levels
Manage the engineering Master files (Routings, mBOMS, Work Instructions, tooling, data sheets, and drawings )
Ensure that the performance of the process meets defined targets (quality, cost, delivery)
Perform regular 5s Audits/ events to improve productivity and work place organisation
People
Implement all Human Resources policies as defined
Support the identification of future skills requirements
Improvement
Lead projects in support of the continuous improvement plan for the value stream
Participate in the Gemba process to identify opportunities for improvement
Select, deploy improvement tools to deliver improved performance, e.g. Standard Work, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, etc.
Seek employee ideas, involvement and participation in improvement activities
Continuously challenge, identify, and act on opportunities for improvements
Lead projects as required that are aligned to the strategic execution plan
Leadership Focus:
Lead project meetings to ensure projects are delivered on time on budget
Promote team working and a One Team ethos
Partner with the Supply chain, Manufacturing and Quality teams to deliver robust plans
Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Communicate with stakeholders the impact change and potential effects on supply
Assure the application of regulatory provisions
Data and Reporting
Manage all projects robustly reporting on performance to milestones regularly
Measure and analyse performance using the defined metrics and provide the required weekly/monthly reports
Analyse the root cause of metrics not at target level and develop the necessary action/recovery plans
Ensures the security and integrity of all master data
About You
We want to make sure youre set up for success in our mission. To be successful in your application youll need to demonstrate :
Essential
Relevant engineering degree, HND, BTec / Professional Level 5 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 5 qualification
Prior experience in a Manufacturing Engineering Role
Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Kaizen, lean manufacturing
Excellent communication skills
Working knowledge of ISO 9001

Demonstrated delivery of KPIs (OTIF, FTG, accident prevention, cost, etc)
Strong leadership & organizational skills
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems experience
Prior experience of a hand-assembly process / line
Desirable
Green Belt or Black Belt in Lean Sigma
CPIM or APICS Basics or working towards
Working knowledge of SAP or (M3) systems
CAD Knowledge for 2D and 3D drawings
