A new and exciting opportunity has arisen within the HSCP eHealth team for a Network Specialist.
The post holder will work within a small, established, and proficient IT support team to provide a specialised high-level networking service to the HSCP, covering all aspects of our data network and associated systems.
The post holder is responsible for managing and upgrading NHS Highland's network hardware (switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, and telephony), including all hospitals, general practices, and other healthcare sites within the HSCP. Responsibilities include installation, de-commissioning, firewall management, and network infrastructure security. The role involves working closely with other NHS Scotland health boards, public bodies, partners, and the Argyll & Bute Council ICT networking team when required.
Candidates should be educated to degree/HND or equivalent level and have at least five years of experience in a similar role.
Experience working within large corporate network environments is essential. The post holder will have a thorough understanding of large-scale network design, network protocols, cyber security controls, infrastructure hardware, and proven hands-on experience troubleshooting complex networks.
The role involves regular travel across the HSCP and NHS Highland, including periods of unsocial hours.
The eHealth Department focuses on the development, application, and implementation of digital technology to improve healthcare infrastructure for patients and staff services. This includes local IT, cloud services, and clinical systems used for diagnosis and care pathways. It also involves policies and protocols to ensure the confidentiality and security of sensitive data and supports major changes in working practices through training, support, and organizational development.
Excellent communication skills are essential for dealing with demanding users and advising eHealth management at all levels regarding IT services, major incidents, or new requirements within the Digital Delivery Plan.
A full UK driving license is required due to the travel involved around Argyll & Bute HSCP and NHS Highland, with pool cars often available.
