About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Panel Design Engineer to join our engineering design team. You will be responsible for the design and delivery of low-voltage (LV) control panels and switchgear projects, ensuring that all outputs meet customer specifications and comply with relevant UK and industry standards.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in control panel design and manufacturing, with the ability to take full ownership of multiple concurrent design projects. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with clients and project teams to deliver bespoke, high-quality engineering solutions while supporting the professional development of junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
* Take ownership of LV control panel and switchgear designs, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, BS EN standards, and internal quality assurance systems.
* Develop and produce detailed electrical schematics, 2D layouts, and bills of materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing and procurement.
* Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they remain on schedule, within budget and aligned with quality standards.
* Collaborate with project managers, clients and internal departments to deliver custom-engineered solutions.
* Oversee workshop builds, factory testing and commissioning support.
* Provide mentorship, technical guidance and support to junior engineers.
* Drive continuous improvement in design efficiency, quality and compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
* Qualification in Electrical Engineering (Degree / HND / HNC) or equivalent relevant experience.
* Proven experience in control panel design within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD or EPLAN design software.
* Strong understanding of switchgear, PLCs, HMIs and drive systems.
* Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving abilities.
* Familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g. BS EN 61439).
* Experience with design documentation such as wiring schedules and layout drawings.
* Knowledge of functional safety, ATEX or industrial automation principles.
* Experience managing technical deliverables from concept through to commissioning.
