An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust for an enthusiastic, highly driven Consultant with a passion for intensive care and an allied specialty (anaesthetics, emergency medicine, or acute medicine) to develop existing services through specialist knowledge and expertise.
An ICM CCT is not essential; potential candidates are directed to page 19 of the FICM document "Critical Staffing #1: A best practice framework for safe and effective Critical Care staffing." The post holder must have full GMC registration, a valid licence to practice, and be on the specialist register for their allied specialty, with or without Intensive Care Medicine, or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at interview.
Main duties of the job
Clinical:
* Provide high-quality Critical Care and emergency and/or acute medicine services as part of the cross-County team.
* Develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in assessing and managing acutely ill patients.
* Work well in a multi-professional team with excellent team-working skills and a professional attitude.
* Deliver clinical and quality targets agreed nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
* Follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) provides acute hospital services for about half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales. The catchment area includes picturesque regions from the Cambrian Mountains to Newport and the Black Country. Main towns include Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Whitchurch, Newport, Telford, Wellington, Newtown, and Welshpool.
Our main locations are Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, both approximately 20 minutes apart, providing a wide range of acute services including emergency, outpatient, diagnostics, inpatient medical care, and critical care. We also offer outreach clinics and services at various community hospitals.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
A formal job plan will be agreed within 3 months of starting, based on a 10 PA working week. The plan will be reviewed annually and will include clinical duties, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities, with personal objectives aligned to service improvements and strategic priorities.
The full-time job plan includes:
* Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care, including clinical activity and emergency work, with night-time Critical Care on-call duties (6 pm-8 am).
* Rota pattern of 1 in 9 weeks with night and day weekends, attracting a 3% Category A on-call payment.
* Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) for CPD, audit, teaching, and research, with expected involvement as Critical Care Lead, M&M Lead, and CCOT Link Intensivist.
