Senior Data Engineer – Java (Azure Cloud)
Location: Fully Remote (Must be UK based)

Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Data Engineer with strong Java development experience to join a team delivering large‑scale data and backend solutions in a modern Azure cloud environment.
This role is suited to someone who enjoys working across data platforms and backend systems, contributing to reliable, scalable data pipelines and services that support business‑critical use cases.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Developing and maintaining Java‑based services that support data processing and integration
2. Delivering and improving data pipelines, including batch workloads and scheduled processing
3. Working closely with engineering and data teams to ensure high‑quality, reliable data outputs
4. Designing solutions with performance, scalability, and maintainability in mind
5. Supporting deployments and releases through automated CI/CD processes
6. Investigating and resolving issues across development, test, and production environments
7. Participating in peer reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives
8. Contributing within an Agile delivery model
What We’re Looking For
9. Strong commercial experience using Java in backend or service‑oriented environments
10. Proven exposure to data engineering concepts, including ETL/ELT pipelines and data transformations
11. Solid SQL skills for querying, validation, and troubleshooting
12. experience working with cloud‑based data platforms such as data lakes or data warehouses
13. Hands‑on experience in an Azure environment
14. Familiarity with modern engineering practices including source control and automated deployment
15. Good understanding of distributed systems and service‑to‑service communication
Technical Environment
16. Java (backend / services)
17. Azure cloud services
18. Data processing platforms ( Spark or cloud data warehouses)
19. CI/CD tooling
20. Git or similar version control
21. Containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes (desirable)
Nice to Have
22. Exposure to data monitoring, quality, or observability tooling
23. experience working in larger, complex system landscapes
24. Mentoring or technical leadership experience
