Responsibilities
* The management and maintenance of NCEA flow sites and supporting the team with other monitoring sites.
* Ensuring the Hydrometric Network is robust, resilient and incident ready.
* Data quality assurance.
* Evolving the network to meet current and future needs.
* Field-based work, including travel to local offices and nationally for meetings.
* Supporting activities of the NCEA water quantity network such as site selection and developing new analytical approaches, spot flow gauging, and upgrade projects to improve stage and flow monitoring.
* Championing high quality river flow data and the NCEA flow sub-network.
Qualifications & Experience
* Geography / Science degree preferred. Since a minimum qualification of A Level / BTEC / Diploma in science subjects.
* Capable of managing large quantities of data and IT systems, including Microsoft Office.
* Team player with excellent interpersonal skills for collaborative work.
* Initiative, organisation and practical skills with the ability to work independently on site.
* Analytical approach to problem solving with attention to detail.
* Excellent adherence to Health, Safety & Wellbeing guidelines.
* Field work experience, ideally in hydrometry.
* Practical problem solving.
Desired (but not essential)
* Familiarity with communication technologies and/or networking.
* Experience with water level, flow and rainfall instrumentation.
Essential criteria
* Full UK driving licence.
* Ability to swim, as you will be working in/near water & outdoors year-round and lone working.
Contract & Working Arrangements
This is a fixed term assignment until 31/03/2028. The role will involve both field-based activities and some office-based work; hybrid working is offered.
