Tissue Viability Clinical Lead

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Tissue Viability Service in a leadership capacity. We are seeking a motivated and passionate individual with a strong commitment to education and improving patient outcomes in wound care.

This position is countywide (not limited to the Cambridge area).

Main duties of the job

Support Operational & Clinical manager Tissue Viability Nurse and Continence teams to provide a focussed Tissue viability service across Cambridge and Peterborough NHS Trust, working closely with secondary care Trusts and nursing homes to provide a seamless service for patients. Role is predominantly concentrating on Tissue viability, however input into continence services will be required.

Manage a caseload of various wounds, autonomously and as a part of a multidisciplinary teams, utilising advanced assessment skills to prevent wounds and improve wound management in all patients. This includes preventing admission to secondary care and facilitating early discharge planning for patients with significant wounds to enable timely discharged.

Work with the lead TVN to develop and strengthen tissue viability services across the county.

Provide nurse education, both supporting and developing nurses and allied health professionals in tissue viability matter.

Participate in Continuing Professional Development and in evidence‑based audit and research projects.

Job responsibilities

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. To be professionally accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual patients with complex tissue viability matters.

To organise the caseload efficiently and effectively with regards to clinical priorities and use of time.

Providing expert advice and guidance relating to tissue viability to the patients, carers and health care professionals including community, residential and nursing home staff working closely with secondary care and social services.

Act as the patients advocate when appropriate and collaborate with other health and social agencies to facilitate the best outcome for the patient.

Promote awareness of the diverse patients with different needs and expectations and help the clinical manager to develop strategies to meet the challenges for providing high quality care.

Ensure accurate and timely clinical records are maintained.

Work with clinical manager to design and review evidence‑based Tissue Viability policies and procedures that assure quality and meet professional requirements.

Participate in research relevant to tissue viability.

Person Specification


Education / Qualifications

* Registered Nurse (Level 1)
* Educated to degree/diploma level or equivalent
* Tissue Viability qualification
* Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
* MSc or willingness to undertake further study


Experience

* 2 years recent experience working as a tissue viability nurse
* Evidence of expert clinical skill and the ability to work outside the boundaries
* Acute and community experience
* Evidence of participating in audit/research in nursing practice
* Knowledge of NMC Codes of Conduct and or guidelines of professional practice
* Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of tissue viability
* Commit to the principles of clinical governance and clinical supervision
* Experience of managing staff


Skills & Abilities

* Can demonstrate leadership skills and initiative
* Skilled in teaching trained and untrained staff, carers, and patients
* Able to identify problems and recommend solutions
* Motivated to work collaboratively
* Ability to remain calm and work effectively in pressure situations
* Ability to deal with those with complex conditions
* Demonstrates understanding of safeguarding issues
* Excellent verbal communication skills with awareness of the need for confidentiality at all times
* Good understanding of databases and clinical systems
* Understanding of wider NHS and social care issues
