Learning Support Assistant Location: Chesham, Buckinghamshire Employment via SENDHelp We are a working with a special school in Chesham that supports children and young people aged 2 to 19 years. Their pupils have severe learning difficulties (SLD), often with associated communication needs including autism, and benefit from a highly structured, visual approach (such as PECS, TEACCH, etc.). They pride themselves on putting learners at the centre: tailoring work tasks individually, supporting independence, personal, social, emotional development, communication and sensory needs, and preparing young people for life beyond school. The Role: Learning Support Assistant As a Learning Support Assistant, you will: Work one-to-one or in small groups supporting children across the age range (2-19) with SLD and communication needs. Assist in implementing individual plans, daily tasks, therapies or communication systems (PECS/SPELL etc). Support with personal, social, emotional development and help pupils engage with practical, sensory experiences. Help with mobility, personal care or behaviour management where required, in a caring, respectful way. Work alongside teachers, therapists, and other support staff to deliver learning, and provide feedback on progress. What We're Looking For (Qualifications & Experience) We'd love someone who has: Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, ideally severe/profound learning difficulties and/or autism. Some familiarity with communication systems (e.g. PECS, visual supports), sensory needs, behaviour support. Good interpersonal skills: patience, empathy, resilience.
