Senior Protection & Control Engineer – Contract – Hybrid (Stafford)
We're supporting a leading engineering consultancy delivering Protection & Control design packages for complex substation and grid modernisation projects. They're looking for a Senior Protection & Control Engineer to take a lead role in technical design, IEC 61850 engineering, and coordination of secondary system deliverables.
This role suits an experienced P&C specialist with strong design capability, confidence in leading discussions, and hands-on experience with modern digital substation technologies.
What You'll Be Delivering
* Lead the development and review of Protection & Control designs for high-voltage substation projects.
* Produce SLDs, KLDs, wiring diagrams, schematics, cable schedules and design documentation.
* Support the definition of protection philosophies, scheme design, and interface specifications.
* Contribute to IEC 61850 engineering activities including GOOSE messaging, station bus design and IED configuration.
* Work across major relay and IED platforms (Siemens, ABB, GE, SEL, etc.).
* Attend design reviews, client workshops, technical meetings and internal coordination sessions.
* Provide technical input for tenders, surveys, and delivery stages including FAT/SAT planning.
What We're Looking For
* Proven background as a Senior Protection & Control Engineer within Transmission & Distribution, EPC or OEM environments.
* Strong understanding of protection schemes, secondary systems, and system integration.
* Hands-on IEC 61850 experience (engineering, configuration, interoperability).
* Ability to produce and assure high-quality technical design deliverables.
* Confident communicator, capable of leading technical discussions and resolving design challenges.
* UK driving licence and willingness to attend the Stafford office 3 days per week.
