Project Description:
Research, design, and develop product design concepts for a new radio repeater product Tait wants to bring to the market. The design concepts must consider usability, aesthetics, heat dissipation, ruggedness, and design for manufacture.
The duties of the role will include:
The role involves researching existing products, refining the project brief into product requirements, exploring a range of concepts through sketching and 3D CAD modelling, developing key product features, and exploring ways to integrate and leverage Tait's existing product portfolio. Regularly presenting design concepts to key stakeholders for feedback and refinement.
You have the opportunity to gain experience in:

* Design process used in manufacturing industry

* 3D CAD Design
* Working with manufacturing to gain DFM experience
This opportunity is suited to someone:
* With an appreciation for usability and translating customer use cases into design concepts
* Creative and proficient at communicating design ideas
* With experience in 3D CAD, preferably Creo, but Solidworks, Fusion, Autodesk, etc., are also considered
* With experience in Adobe design and presentation software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and product rendering
* Understanding of design for manufacturing
* Basic understanding of heat transfer and thermodynamics
* Studying Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Product Design

To be eligible for this summer internship, you must:
* Be studying or have studied at a New Zealand tertiary education institute (students who studied overseas are not eligible)
* Be studying at NZQA levels 6-10, or if completed, the last semester must have been less than 12 months ago
* Be studying science, technology, engineering, design, or business
* Have legal permission to work in New Zealand
* Not have been previously employed at Tait, unless part-time or temporary
* Not have undertaken more than two Experience Grant Internships with Tait
This is a fixed-term paid summer internship for 400 hours, starting Monday, 17th November 2025.
