Position Title: Head of Commercial Finance
Location: Close to Slough
Reports To: Finance Director
Job Function
The Head of Commercial Finance is responsible for leading and managing the Finance team, ensuring accurate financial performance measurement, analysis, and reporting across the organisation. This role acts as a bridge between Finance and commercial functions such as Sales, Pricing, Marketing, and Supply Chain, with a focus on profitability, process efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities
* Full ownership and accountability for the Controlling team (including 3 direct reports).
* Partnering with business leaders to support, challenge, and improve financial and commercial outcomes.
* Managing internal control systems, rebate reconciliations, and internal audits.
* Providing recommendations to senior leadership to enhance profitability.
* Depoising for the Finance Director where necessary, especially in matters related to Controlling.
* Lead, coach, and develop a team of direct and indirect reports.
* Build and deliver development strategies aligned with Finance department goals.
* Set strategic direction for the team for 6/12/24 months.
* Oversee actuals, forecasts, and budgets for all business units.
* Ensure forecasting accuracy and timeliness in corporate systems.
* Manage review of distribution and fixed costs, highlighting risks and opportunities.
* Lead the annual budgeting process and ensure key deadlines are met.
* Drive financial appraisals, scenario modelling, and use of profitability tools.
* Oversee reporting platforms (e.g., BI tools) for Finance.
* Produce monthly consolidated P&L and forecast reports with commentary.
* Lead variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior year.
* Develop KPIs to support commercial and operational decision-making.
* Ensure accuracy of pricing, discounts, rebates, and accruals in financial systems.
* Manage and optimise rebate processes across business units.
* Act as an authorised signatory for pricing and rebate corrections.
* Ensure compliance with internal controls and external audit requirements.
* Support business projects and ad hoc initiatives.
* Continuously improve analysis, reporting, and process efficiency.
* Collaborate with wider teams to optimise financial systems and processes.
Education & Training
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ CIMA / ACCA or equivalent) with 5+ years post-qualification experience.
Experience
* 7+ years’ experience in business partnering or commercial finance.
* 7+ years’ experience in FP&A, variance analysis, and reporting.
* Experience in manufacturing or sales-driven organisations is desirable.
Skills & Knowledge
* Advanced Excel skills.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Excellent planning and organisational abilities.
* Experience with BI reporting tools (e.g., Power BI) is an advantage.
* Strong team ethic and leadership skills.
* Ability to work under pressure with a methodical approach.
* Positive, proactive, and solutions-focused mindset.
