Job Title: IT / Data Cabling / Infrastructure Engineer
CBRE Global Workplace Solutions is a leading provider of integrated facilities and corporate real estate management services. We are seeking an IT/Data Cabling/Infrastructure Engineer to join our team supporting a prestigious client account.
Role Summary:
The primary focus of this role is to take full ownership and accountability for the operational requirements of communication rooms across occupied office environments. This includes ensuring that all data cabling, racks, PDUs, and supporting infrastructure are installed, maintained, tested, and managed in accordance with current standards, legislation, and client requirements. The role also requires overseeing the client's appointed external contractor to ensure all planned preventive maintenance (PPM) for M&E systems is completed in line with agreed schedules. This position requires travel between Paddington, Reading, and Basingstoke, with occasional travel to Europe as needed.
This role sits within the Corporate Real Estate (CRE) team and works closely with the Corporate IT (CIT) team. The CRE team maintains accountability for communications rooms, passive infrastructure, and associated M&E systems, while CIT retains ownership of active IT equipment housed within the racks

Structured Cabling
Install, terminate, label, test, and fault‑find structured data cabling (copper and fibre) in occupied office environments.
Run cabling from patch panels to:
Main Distribution Frames (MDFs)
Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs)
End‑user outlets and meeting room locations
Carry out certification testing using industry‑standard testing equipment and ensure results are accurately recorded.
Ensure all cabling installations meet recognised industry standards and internal requirements.
Maintain accurate cabling records, labelling, and as‑built documentation.
Communications Rooms (IDF / MDF) Ownership
Act as the responsible person for all communications rooms within the building(s).
Ensure all comms rooms are:
Secure, clean, and well organised
Maintained in accordance with current standards and legislation
Free from unauthorised equipment, materials, or cabling
Maintain data racks, containment systems, PDUs, and all passive infrastructure supporting the racks.
Monitor environmental conditions and escalate issues to engineering teams where required.
Interface with Corporate IT (CIT)
Act as the primary point of contact for CIT for any proposed changes or additions to data racks.
Review and coordinate all new equipment installations before works commence.
Provide safe access and suitable infrastructure for CIT activities, without assuming responsibility for active IT equipment.
Moves, Adds and Changes (MACs)
Support small office moves, desk reconfigurations, and layout changes to ensure users have the correct connectivity.
Coordinate activities with workplace, facilities, and IT teams to minimise disruption.
Contractor Management
Coordinate and oversee client‑appointed subcontractors completing:
Larger cabling installations
Project works
Office moves and reconfigurations
Monitor quality of workmanship and ensure compliance with agreed standards, design specification, and site procedures.
Escalate non‑compliance or performance issues where required.
Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM)
Oversee completion of all PPM activities related to: M&E systems supporting communications, rooms, Data cabling infrastructure, Cleaning of communications rooms by the appropriate internal teams or contractors
Track completion, documentation, and follow‑up actions.
Complete routine visual checks of communication rooms
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all works are carried out in line with health, safety, and site procedures.
Promote best practice in cable management, housekeeping, and risk reduction within communications spaces.
Maintain a strong understanding of H&S obligations.
General
Manage the end‑to‑end process for change requests relating to equipment in communication rooms, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures and the change control calendar.
Uphold robust access‑control processes for all communication rooms.
Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies.
Undertake additional tasks as directed by senior management.
Promote and uphold the core values of CBRE.
Experience Required:
Qualifications
City & Guilds 3668 Level 3 Certificate in Communications Cabling, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
Eligible to hold an ECS Network Infrastructure Installer Level 3 card (Copper, Fibre, or both).
Proven hands on experience installing, terminating, testing, and fault finding structured cabling in occupied office environments.
Desirable
BICSI certification (Installer or Technician level).
Manufacturer or cable tester certification (e.g. Fluke).
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Skills & Experience

Experience coordinating third‑party contractors.
