Advanced Training Fellow Cardiology

The closing date is 21 October 2025

Applications are invited for a post CCT fellow in devices, with an option to include either heart failure or ICC as an additional sub-specialty.

This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months and would suit a registrar with their CCT looking to further enhance their experience in devices including complex device implant, pacemaker lead extraction, sub-cutaneous ICD's, leadless devices and conduction system pacing.

In addition to cath lab work, there will be opportunities to provide outpatient clinics, support the care of inpatients under the devices team, and to attend and present at the devices and endocarditis MDT's.

Whilst there is no on-call commitment attached to this post, there will be opportunities to gain experience in general cardiology on-call (consultant level) in a supportive environment.


Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job will include:

Pacemaker implantation for bradycardia devices, CRT, ICD, CSP, and Micra devices. The department also has an extraction service that the successful candidate can be involved in

Assisting with in-patient management for patients under the care of the device team

Attending and contributing to MDT's

Attending formal cardiology education programmes and conferences as appropriate to level of seniority and training requirements

Person Specification


Essential Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCP or equivalent
* ALS certification
* Eligibility for entry to GMC Specialist Register
* Eligibility for specialist registration with GMC via Certificate of completion of Training (CCT) or CESR
* MD/PHd
* Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree
* Academic and extracurricular achievements


Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

* CMT rotation (or equivalent)
* Training post in cardiology
* Basic skills coronary angiography
* ECG interpretation
* Management of cardiology patients in acute and chronic disease
* Commitment to training and audit
* Track record in teaching and training
* BSE Accreditation in adult transthoracic
* Temporary pacemaker insertion
* Research experience
* Publications
* Experience of advanced heart failure training
* Experience of ICC
* Senior Fellows will have appropriate skills & experience to demonstrate in the chosen specialty minimum equivalent to ST3.
* Presented evidence of experience to date supported by references
* Experience of cardiac MRI
* Experience of cardiac CT

Skills

* Proven ability to work as a member of a team is prudent and the ability to organise and prioritise busy workloads effectively and cope under pressure is crucial
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals is vital
* Proficient and efficient handling of medical problems with evidence of safe sound practical procedures


Personal Characteristics

* Evidence of continuing professional updating
* Highly motivated individual
* Demonstrates a clear reason for wanting this rotation
* Commitment to pursuing career in general medicine or related specialties.
* Certificate of Good Standing from current medical council and references from institutional email Id of referees will be required.
