We are seeking a proactive and experienced Machinist Supervisor to lead our CNC machining department. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing workflow, allocating jobs, taking and ordering stock, ensuring quality standards, and reporting to higher management. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge relating to machining engineering, competent communication skills, and highly capable of organising and managing workload.
The role involves the direct management of 5 people working on a range of machines from 5 axis Doosan CNC machines programmed using Fusion 360 and using Fanuc control systems, to CNC lathes and manual milling machines and drills. As the supervisor for the department, you will be required to allocate the job cards in sequence aligned with production priorities. This will be communicated by regular meetings with factory senior management and by you communicating with supervisors of other departments to monitor for shortages. The tolerances we work to are typically to 0.1 mm but can be required to be smaller.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment with an understanding of engineering drawings and principles. The candidate should be confident and happy to communicate with a range of people across the business to work towards a shared goal. The candidate must have a positive and self-motivated attitude in order to lead and motivate the department.
Key Responsibilities
Workflow Management: Allocate tasks effectively, coordinate with other departments, and ensure production targets are met.
Coach & Assist: Help staff overcome problems in their work and develop their skills through regular coaching.
Reporting: Communicate progress and operational issues directly to senior management.
Team Oversight: Monitor staff performance, provide coaching, and initiate disciplinary procedures when necessary.
Policy Communication: Cascade company policies and priorities to chargehands and ensure alignment across the team.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to enhance efficiency and streamline operations.
Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections (full or sample-based) to ensure work meets company standards.
Equipment Monitoring: Check machinery functionality and report issues to maintenance promptly.
Workplace Standards: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Team Morale: Foster a positive team culture and address interpersonal issues early, escalating to HR when needed
