Job overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Senior Maternity Support Worker to join our Homebirth Team at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. This role involves providing high-quality, personalised care to women and families choosing homebirth, working closely with midwives to ensure safe and positive experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support midwives in delivering care during antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
* Assist with clinical observations, documentation, and preparation of equipment for homebirths.
* Provide emotional and practical support to women and families in their own homes.
* Promote safe practice and uphold professional standards in line with Trust policies.
* Level 2 qualification in Maths and English.
* Care Certificate
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work flexibly, including on-call duties.
* Previous experience in maternity or community care settings.
* Understanding of homebirth pathways and safeguarding procedures.

Qualifications
* GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
* Care Certificate (or willing to complete within 3 months)
* Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree – Maternity Pathway
* Level 5 Foundation Degree In Health & Care
ANALYTICAL AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS
* Demonstrate achievement of numeracy and literacy skills. Ability to read / write and speak, receive and understand instructions in English
* Ability to organise and prioritise own delegated workload
* Ability to explain the requirement to balance clinical caseload
* Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and nonverbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi‑disciplinary team
* Ability to communicate with a wide range of health care professionals, on a variety of complex and sensitive issues which require persuasive and empathetic skills
* Ability to work under pressure across competing priorities, Ability to deal with nonroutine and unpredictable nature of workload and individual patient contact
