Location: We are currently looking to recruit Mechanical Fitters to work across the Yorkshire region in our Service Centre within our Asset Maintenance Business Unit area here at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Work type: Permanent. You’ll be working 37 hours per week plus additional overtime as required.

Process & Pumping are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will undertake maintenance of Yorkshire Waters Mechanical assets across wastewater treatment and clean water pumping sites. Mobile working as part of a Service Centre Asset Maintenance Department to deliver Planned & Reactive maintenance. Driving to deliver improved asset reliability through effective decision making

Where you fit in!

We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to work across various remote locations. In this role, you will be responsible for completing both planned and reactive mechanical tasks within agreed timescales, quality standards, and cost expectations.

You will work closely with the Service Centre Coordinator to prioritise workloads effectively and maintain strong relationships with operational teams, customers, suppliers, and contract partners.

Key responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical faults, carrying out repairs, servicing, strip‑downs, rebuilds, and testing of pumps. You will be required to replace key components, install a range of pumps along with associated equipment and pipework on customer sites, and assess or condemn faulty equipment for return to the workshop for repair.

You will also support the Service Centre Team and the Mitigation Department by carrying out pre‑hire and post‑hire assessments and assisting with the installation of temporary mobile plant hire, particularly relating to pipework and associated mechanical connections.

You must adhere to all Health & Safety policies and standards, including identifying hazards, implementing mitigations, and reporting them into the company’s hazard database to ensure root causes are addressed.

The role requires producing risk assessments and method statements when a permit to work is needed. You will also use a Toughbook and/or iPad to capture work activity and update job status in line with workflow processes.

Additional responsibilities include supporting the development and training of apprentices and less experienced team members, as well as identifying opportunities to improve value and service within the Maintenance Function.

Installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment to relevant standards is essential. You will proactively identify and report follow‑on work or areas requiring improvement, and you will be expected to specify parts and equipment required for procurement as part of your day‑to‑day duties.

What skills, experience & qualifications you will need:

11. It is an essential requirement that you hold a recognised Mechanical craft/Technician Apprenticeship and either a City & Guilds/ ONC/ BTEC/ NVQ/ HNC/ HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Eng Tech.
12. You will be required to visit sites across the Yorkshire Region therefore a full valid driving licence (with no more than six points) is an essential requirement of this role.

It is desirable that you hold the following qualifications:

13. HNC in a Mechanical discipline.
14. CompEx 11.

It is a mandatory requirement that you can demonstrate experience and knowledge in:

15. Safe isolation to the current IET regulations.
16. Time served industrial mechanical fitter.
17. Working with rotating equipment.
18. Ability to produce maintenance reports.
19. Fault finding on mechanical systems.

It is desirable that you can demonstrate experience and knowledge in:

20. Maintaining and repairing centrifugal, positive displacement, RAM, progressive cavity, diaphragm, peristaltic pumps.
21. With gearboxes.
22. With compressors.
23. Maintaining equipment in accordance with PSSR.
24. With blowers.
25. Working with steam systems.
26. Working with chemical plant.
27. With hot work/ fabrication and welding.
28. Operating lifting equipment and slinging.
29. Pneumatics and hydraulics.

Ideally, you will have previous experience gained as a Field Mechanical Fitter within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industry sectors. Experience within a mechanical based environment or site-based fault diagnosis and repair on complex processes and equipment.

As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces, any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria including, BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure your full safety when working in hazardous environments.
