Job responsibilities

Outline of main job duties/responsibilities

Acute Geriatrics service: COPS input to frail older patients in accident and emergency and the acute admissions unit. The acute geriatrics consultant works in parallel with an acute medical consultant on the AMU and is supported by a team of junior doctors & registrars, therapists and older adult specialist nurses. They look after an average of 15-20 patients. Acute inpatient care on T10. This is carried out by three separate teams, each led by a consultant and supported by registrars/CMTs/Foundation trainees. Ortho-geriatrics Liaison Service; average number varies from 5-10. The model is a liaison service whereby the patients stay under the care of the orthopaedic team, with ortho-geriatrics consultant & registrar providing specialist reviews for hip fracture patients. Gastroenterology surgical liaison service. Average number varies from 5-10. The model is a liaison service whereby the patients stay under the care of the surgical team, with geriatrics consultant & registrar providing specialist reviews. Community services: Domiciliary visits / MDTs / Nursing home work within Camden & Islington. Older Adult Assessment team: A team of specialist nurses who support in the delivery of excellent care for frail older patients with a particular focus on patients with dementia and delirium. Outpatients: Two general elderly medicine clinics, a multidisciplinary falls clinic, and two rapid access clinics

Person Specification


Knowledge and Qualifications

* Medical Degree
* Completion of Internal Medical Training/ACCS training, or equivalent, and able to work at level of medical registrar
* MRCP or equivalent
* - Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
* Valid ALS certificate or equivalent


Experience

* Familiarity with acute/general medicine
* Experience in working with MDTs and engaging in discharge planning
* Experience of teaching formally and informally
* Evidence of innovation in the development and delivery audit/quality improvement work


Skills and Abilities

* Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
* Ability to teach and facilitate in a multiprofessional setting
* Interest in developing skills in medical education
* Ability to assess acutely ill patients


Communication

* A flexible approach, good leadership and communication skills

* Commitment to education and training
* Ability to multi-task effectively on a number of projects simultaneously

Responsibilities towards promoting Equality Diversity and Inclusion

Including infection prevention and control as an integral part of your continuous personal/professional development and included in your annual appraisal Taking personal responsibility so far as is reasonably practicable, in helping ensure that effective prevention and control of health care associated infections is embedded into everyday practice and applied consistently.
