Job Summary
The Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service is a multidisciplinary team of consultants, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, family therapists, nursery nurses, peer support workers and a pharmacist. The team works across maternity, children’s and community sites in North Central London and delivers face‑to‑face and video‑call support for service users with complex perinatal mental health needs.
This role is part of the WEST Team in Barnet and may include home visits, group sessions, baby massage, weaning support and other evidence‑based interventions. Driving is not essential but would be useful.
Responsibilities
* Work with service users to identify goals using specialist assessment and intervention tools.
* Carry out home visits and run groups (baby massage, weaning, etc.).
* Provide evidence‑based interventions focused on prevention, promotion and early intervention.
* Liaise with MDT colleagues, external stakeholders, service users and families.
* Ensure culturally competent care is delivered promptly and safely.
* Maintain accurate and concise records and document all clinical activity in line with trust policy.
* Represent the service at multidisciplinary, child protection and perinatal birth planning meetings when required.
* Promote child development and safe practice, keeping clinic environments clean and infection‑controlled.
* Support families involved with Children’s Social Care and contribute to care plans.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
* National Nursery Education Board Qualifications or equivalent BTEC (National Diploma in Nursery Nursing / early years).
* NVQ Level 3 or Foundation Degree in early years with minimum 1 year experience.
* Previous experience working in community settings.
Desirable Qualifications
* Demonstrated professional development in early years practice.
Essential Skills / Abilities
* Flexible and responsive approach to mother and baby care.
* Prioritise workload, organise time effectively and meet deadlines.
* Plan, provide and participate in suitable activities for parents and children.
* Strong communication skills (verbal, written, electronic).
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within an MDT.
Desirable Skills / Abilities
* Understanding of mental health disorders and treatment models.
* Knowledge of risk assessment and risk management principles.
Experience / Knowledge
* Understanding of statutory framework for early years foundation stage and the EYFS.
* Experience working in a multicultural environment.
* Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
Desirable Experience / Knowledge
* Experience working with women and babies with mental health needs.

Contract & Duration
Fixed‑term 18‑month part‑time position, Band 4, salary £32,199–£34,876 pro‑rata.
