Detailed job description and main responsibilities Build on the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust Research PPIE Strategy to develop and implement relevant PPIEP training and EDI action plans and policies. • Adopt quality improvement principles to ensure PPIEP training is evaluated and improved according to the needs of researchers and PPIE contributors. • Ensure that all the components which constitute R&I PPIEP initiatives work effectively and deliver tangible benefits to patients and researchers. • Seek opportunities for collaborative working with other organisations locally, regionally and nationally. • Write progress reports, with excellent attention to detail, on training metrics and outcomes, using qualitative and quantitative data. • Represent NUH R&I at relevant conferences, networks and events, sharing best practice with, and learning from, other relevant organisations. • Maintain awareness of current and potential future relevant PPIEP policy development and innovation and provide briefings to the NUH R&I management team via the operational management meetings and formal reports. • Keep the R&I management team and wider staff regularly informed of the results of user involvement feedback activities, and of the associated action plans, preparing formal reports and seeking their approval as required. • Produce detailed reports and other documents, requiring skills in PowerPoint, Excel and Word. • Work without direct supervision and act autonomously on PPIEP activities. • Comply with Data Protection legislation and the Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's information governance and patient/public confidentiality policies and take account of these when writing and publishing events and marketing data. • Occasionally work out of hours (evenings and weekends) as required to deliver and support corporate activities and to represent NUH R&I and associated infrastructure at external events and networks. • Support and deputise for the Research Involvement and Inclusion Lead as necessary in relation to PPIEP activities • Management of a small team leading on PPIEP programme of work • Undertake routine administrative duties to support R&I on key projects as required. Person specification Training and Qualifications Essential criteria Educated to degree or Masters' level, or relevant equivalent experience in the field of patient and public involvement, engagement and participation (PPIEP). Evidence of continuing professional development Desirable criteria Training or coaching qualification. Quality improvement qualification or relevant experience. Experience Essential criteria Experience of working in the field of patient and public involvement, engagement and participation (PPIEP), including working inclusively and collaboratively with diverse communities and members of the public, including those from underserved communities. Experience of designing and delivering training and resources, both online and in person. Experience of involving public contributors in training development and delivery. Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion and its relevance to PPIEP. Knowledge of NIHR and related guidance on working with underserved communities and the significance to PPIE Understanding of the NHS and its research priorities. Motivated to improve the quality and understanding of PPIEP amongst researchers. Experience of line managing staff Desirable criteria Experience of designing and delivering PPIE training and resources. Experience of developing and providing oversight of a service Communication and Relationship Skills Essential criteria Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels across the organisation. Effective interpersonal skills at all levels and can quickly establish credibility Be able to develop both formal and informal contacts and networks to share learning and knowledge within the trust and with local and national social and health care bodies. Well-developed leadership and motivational skills to facilitate working with multiple individuals from differing professional backgrounds across the organisation, system partners, and external national teams Experience of supporting researchers with PPIEP at different stages of the research cycle, including running online and in person events Experience of building effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, at times influencing more senior colleagues. Includes exercising a high degree of tact and discretion with confidential information. Evidence of using facilitation, coaching and influencing skills and ability to empower, coach and support staff A high degree of self-awareness and emotional intelligence to be able to challenge ways of working with empathy and to manage resistance or hostility to making required changes Analyticial and Judgement Skills Essential criteria Able to assess and evaluate project progress against agreed timescale and objectives and provide solutions to address any deviations. Ability to set longer term plans and develop contingencies when deviations from the plans occur. Well-developed Analytical & problem solving skills with the ability to make decisions by determining key points from complex data and multiple information strands Ability to use judgement where there are conflicting views on the project and there is a need to make decisions on complex issues Experience of producing progress reports and documents, using quantitative and qualitative data with excellent attention to detail. Ability to design, create and maintain appropriate information systems (databases and spreadsheets) for service improvement Understands how to analyse data or information and report this so it can be used to influence practice. Desirable criteria Understanding of the external environment and ability to interpret the implications of findings Able to identify and implement improvements to systems and service provision Planning and Organisation Skills Essential criteria Strong project management skills. Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise a varied and busy workload, working to deadlines as required, including coping with unpredictable volumes of work and busy periods. Able to develop and implement short, medium and long-term strategies and plans in partnership with others to deliver benefits for patients, staff, the organisation Able to work across divisional boundaries to identify and achieve ideal patient pathways Knowledge of and ability to apply project management methodologies to plan and implement service improvements whilst ensuring the delivery of project's outputs, outcomes and benefits Desirable criteria Experience of delivering training or running events in the NHS or an academic environment.
