Consultant - Anaesthetics with an Interest in Vascular and CPEX We are looking to appoint consultants in anaesthetics with an interest in:
General
Perioperative medicine including cardiopulmonary exercise testing and high-risk pre-assessment
Vascular anaesthesia
Management
Teaching
The posts are full-time, comprising 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). 7.5 PAs will be dedicated to anaesthetic sessions, with on-call duties expected. 1 PA is allocated to this commitment, and 1.5 PAs to supporting professional activities (SPA).
Candidates should be able to start from October 2025 onwards.

Job responsibilities The post arises due to expansion of theatre activity and retirements.
Job Planning:
The Job Plan will be a prospective agreement outlining duties, responsibilities, and objectives, including clinical work, teaching, research, education, and management. It will specify commitments and personal objectives, with adjustments subject to approval.
One half-day per month is dedicated to audit and teaching, during which routine work is suspended. Attendance is expected from all staff except those on emergency cover or leave. Departmental meetings occur at this time. Teaching is considered part of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).

Person Specification Qualifications Full GMC registration
FRCA or equivalent
Listed on GMC UK Specialist Register (UKSR) or within 6 months of gaining CCT in Anaesthesia at interview
MRCP or similar
Qualification in regional anaesthesia
Experience Experience managing elective and emergency vascular lists independently
Experience running cardiopulmonary exercise testing clinics independently
Provider status in ATLS, ALS, and PALS (or equivalent)
Willingness to teach undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, especially in weekly protected sessions
Experience with audit and understanding of Clinical Governance and evidence-based practice
Faculty in teaching courses
Postgraduate teaching qualification
Skills and Knowledge Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to organise and develop services
Understanding NHS hospital structures and willingness to participate in departmental and hospital roles
Management experience
CPET training or accreditation
Experience conducting high-risk anaesthetic clinics
