ROLE OVERVIEW Product Engineers are responsible for providing manufacturing documentation and engineering support to ensure the day-to-day manufacturing build requirements are met. They provide the interface between customer requirements (Parts Lists & Drawings) and my client and are required to convert this information into documents and formats that can be understood and used by those departments. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Experience of electronic assembly is essential (SMT, PCB, electro-mechanical assembly, wiring etc) Understanding technical drawings and electronic component descriptions is essential. Experience of using Microsoft Word to create production documents is desirable. Previous experience in an Engineering/Technician role is desirable. Experience of mechanical assembly is an advantage. Understanding MRP Stock Control Software is advantageous. Experience of Continuous Improvement is a benefit. Possession of recognised engineering qualifications (A Level, BTEC or higher) is a benefit. A trade test may be required to confirm possession of the required skills. DUTIES Inputting and checking Bills of Materials. Planning, creating, and updating detailed Assembly Aids (AA?s) and ensuring these conform to customer requirements. Configuration control of all supplied documents & engineering packs. Carry out customer design changes at agreed implementation points. Communicate any problems to internal departments and customers (if applicable). Support Production in the analysis of product yields and trends, plus assist process improvement groups to help find root cause. Provide Design For Manufacture (DFM) feedback to customers to help ensure products are optimised for assembly. Assist sales with labour estimates if required. Plan and implement new or improved methods and processes to maximise manufacturing yields and efficiency. Support QA activities. To carry out any other duties relevant to the position. FRAMEWORK Product Engineers interface with all areas of the business, but specifically, they carry out day-to-day activities to meet sales and production demands. They are expected to operate within the framework of objectives, targets and procedures determined by the Lead Engineer, but with the latitude to pursue initiatives that will enable either the departmental targets to be achieved or significant cost savings to be made. RELATIONSHIPS Internally, the Product Engineer will liaise with Sales (Account Management), Purchasing, Engineering, Production and Quality. Externally, the Product Engineer will communicate with customers at engineering and quality level, including involvement in any quality audits. KEY PERSONAL SKILLS Excellent communicator, written and verbal, with good interpersonal skills. Responsive, disciplined, and controlled approach. Strong eye for detail and the ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to work under own initiative to solve problems. Highly motivated and able to motivate others to achieve.
