The Evelina Education Team are pleased to announce that we have a full-time 9 month secondment position to cover Clinical Placement Facilitator - Pre Registration Midwives.

Main duties of the job

1. To work collaboratively within the Trust to develop and support clinical
learning in line with national and professional requirements and the
interprofessional education agenda.
2. To work to develop and deliver programmes of teaching and learning
within the trust in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
3. To work with contacts within the education arena for all clinical groups including Higher Education (HEI’s) providers and to work with colleagues within the clinical education and practice learning team within ET&D in order to manage clinical learning across acute, community and primary care services
4. To support the ET&D Development Manager, Clinical Education and Evelina London head of Clinical Education to
develop:
5. Strategy relating to the provision and expansion of clinical placement capacity for all Health Care Professionals who undertake programmes requiring practice allocations within GSTT
6. Systems and frameworks to increase and improve clinical placements within GSTT for all Health Care Professionals requiring clinical learning experiences

We have one of the largest NHS IVF units in the UK, which includes our flagship Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Teaching & Assessment

7. Develop and deliver teaching programmes for the clinical Education team including the NMC Standards of Student Supervision and Assessment

8. Assess staff & students confidence and competence in practice in all nursing fields

9. Seek feedback on teaching methods from peers and incorporate into teaching methods

10. Adapt sessions to meet the needs of the organisation based on feedback and service requirements

11. Utilise digital methods within teaching sessions to engage participants

12. Inter-professional Placement Management

13. Promote and develop collaborative working with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and other placement providers to enhance inter-professional placement management processes across South East London (SEL)

14. Identify and expand new placement and learning opportunities in Adult, Paediatric and Learning Disability fields that will enhance the clinical learning experience and take forward the inter-professional common learning agenda

15. Explore methods of managing placement allocation that will encompass inter- professional issues and support inter-professional learning

16. Support and promote the development of common initiatives/tools across the HEIs, and work with them to develop more standardised services for the SEL sector Trusts.

17. Work with the HEI Placement Teams to strategically plan placement allocation on an annual basis

18. Work within the Clinical Education and Workforce Development Team to act as a Placement Link for the HEIs in order to manage day to day and at times complex education / student issues.

19. Work with and support Trust Staff and HEIs to implement processes for placement management including hosting local support and implementation of the new Standards for Student supervision & Assessment/ placement review meetings

20. Ensure students contracted for the Trust are appropriately allocated to their clinical learning experience and that local placement issues are addressed in a timely manner

21. Manage placement enquiries and issues from all trust nursing fields clinical staff, students and HEIs and refer these on as appropriate to student conduct reviews and relevant parties

22. Working in Partnership with the HEIs to maintain the integrated evaluation process to monitor the effectiveness of clinical learning experience from all perspectives

23. Keep up to date with professional developments, national initiatives and government changes, that will impact on the provision of clinical learning experiences

24. Explore new ways of providing clinical learning experiences, promoting the implementation of new methods and ideas where appropriate.

25. Establish and manage resources within the Trust to ensure delivery of student induction and other teaching and support opportunities for students

26. Ensure clinical areas are providing learning environments that are supportive of newly qualified staff. Providing infrastructure to enable them to make the transition to competent registered professional

27. Coordinate & deliver a range of teaching sessions for students, new starters and newly qualified staff across all nursing fields within the Trust and Evelina.

28. Engage with the HEIs to support the development of new curricula and input in relation to Practice Learning Outcomes and the Practice Learning Experience.

29. Quality Assurance / Regulatory Reviews

30. Support the HEIs, Trust and NHS London in the preparation of Regulatory Body Reviews

31. Participate in the revision and development of the on going quality monitoring process in line with National Guidelines and other quality monitoring tools

32. Support and contribute to the Educational audits as required by the Trust

Person specification

Qualifications / Education

Essential criteria

33. Specialist professional knowledge of mentorship, education and development practice
34. Evidence of continuous professional and academic development
35. Registered Midwife
36. Educated to Degree level

Desirable criteria

37. Postgraduate Certificate Advanced Practice (Education) or Equivalent
38. Debriefing training

Skills/ Knowledge/ Ability

Essential criteria

39. Understanding of the principles of teaching and learning
40. Knowledge of educational standards and practice
41. Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods.
42. Knowledge of recruitment, selection and disciplinary procedures
43. Excellent time management and organisatioanl skills
44. Excellent Verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable criteria

45. Able to present to large groups of people
46. Understanding and knowledge of curriculum deisgn and development
47. Knowledge of local, regional, and national policies

Previous Experience

48. Experience of managing a team or caseload
49. Experience of involvement in educational initiatives
50. Able to present articulately to groups of people
51. Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating, training sessions / programmes
52. Significant post Reg experience
