Clinical Psychologist; Paediatric Psychology/Neonatal Services
We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to work on the Neonatal Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford (0.5 WTE) and in our Shropshire Paediatric Psychology Service, primarily with our children's community nursing teams (0.4 WTE).
We are offering a preceptorship pathway from Agenda for Change Band 7 to 8a, on completion of the required competencies.
The Paediatric Psychology Service provides targeted input into several multi-disciplinary teams across Shropshire and works closely with the children’s community nursing team. We are a welcoming, well-established team of Psychologists, with a shared passion for continuously improving and promoting positive outcomes for babies and children/young people with physical health conditions. This role is well supported by professional leadership structures and will benefit from the support of the Neonatal Network Community of Practice. The post holder will work closely alongside another Clinical Psychologist on the unit. The role involves working with families and staff and becoming embedded into this passionate team of varied Medical and Allied Health professionals.
There will be regular opportunities for CPD, neonatal/paediatric peer supervision, service development and collaborating with psychology colleagues across our Integrated Care System.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role involve providing evidence-based, psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for babies, children and their families, aimed at reducing distress and promoting positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
The role will also involve working indirectly with neonatal and community nursing colleagues, sharing psychological skills and approaches and promoting psychologically informed care, through supervision, consultation and multi-disciplinary team working.
There will be scope to provide supervision for nursing and psychology colleagues and contribute to service audit, evaluation and development projects within the role.
The successful applicant will be a compassionate and committed team worker, with previous experience within paediatric psychology settings and a strong passion for making a positive difference to the lives of babies, children and families in this setting. Skills in making psychological theory and approaches accessible to colleagues in other disciplines will be key to this role. Person specification
Qualifications
* Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent) providing eligibility for registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Evidence of further post qualification training /short courses relevant to children/young people’s mental health and/or paediatric psychology
* Evidence of continuing professional development in line with the requirements of HCPC registration
Experience
* Experience working with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity, across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings.
* Significant post qualification experience working with children, young people and families
* Substantial experience of working clinically within multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience of supervision of pre-qualification psychologists or non-psychological professionals
* Experience of teaching/training with psychologists or non-psychological professionals
* Experience of audit/research/evaluation
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for a patient’s psychological care and treatment.
Knowledge and Skills
* Advanced skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
* Skills and experience in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups using a variety of models.
* Knowledge and skills in the application of psychological models in physical healthcare settings.
* Specialist knowledge and skills working in paediatric settings for children and young people; understanding of systemic issues concerned and the specialised psychological interventions necessary to work in this field.
