Following the retirement of the current postholder, the Governors are seeking to appoint a reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic Senior Caretaker to join our successful and friendly school. The school is split across two sites – Stanley and Castleford – catering for pupils from across the Wakefield District who have severe and profound learning disabilities, many of whom also have complex autism. Our children are at the heart of everything that we do. The successful candidate will need to be self-motivated and have good organisational and inter personal skills, and will need to develop rapport with our pupils. The advertised post is at the school’s Stanley site.
Duties include: opening and securing the premises; operating the heating and hydrotherapy pool systems; supervising all maintenance and improvement work taking place on the school premises; completing regular site inspections; completing regular safety audits; general maintenance jobs and repair work; daily cleaning hours and supervision of cleaning staff. In addition, the appointed candidate will work with the Headteacher to identify and respond to any health and safety issues (please see the job specification for a full list of duties and responsibilities).
Training will be provided and it will be expected that opportunities for continued development will be taken up.
The role is to be carried out over a split working day. The successful candidate will be expected to be flexible, for example, to be available on the odd evening or weekend for unplanned or urgent repair/maintenance work.
We will offer:
1. Talented, friendly, dedicated, caring and ambitious staff
2. Happy and confident pupils, who enjoy learning and achieving
3. A welcome friendly school with a commitment to developing your skills through high quality continuing professional development
4. Consistently high and improving standards
5. A fully supportive, knowledgeable, active and accessible Governing Body
It is preferable that the appointed Senior Caretaker will occupy the school bungalow on a service tenancy basis once this property becomes available following an end of tenancy inspection and the completion of any necessary major repair work. However, candidates who do not wish to occupy the school bungalow may be considered.
We strongly encourage prospective candidates to come and visit the school by arrangement by contacting the school on or e-mail
The successful applicant will be required to complete a Disclosure Application Form and to provide criminal conviction information. The successful applicant will be subject to a full medical assessment by Occupational Health.
