Your New Role
We’re excited to welcome a Lead Technician to our team at the Etches Park Train Maintenance Centre. In this hands‑on, technically focused role, you’ll take responsibility for servicing, fault‑finding, and repairing Hitachi Rail rolling stock—helping to keep our fleet safe, reliable and performing at its best. What You’ll Be Doing
Maintenance & Engineering
1. Maintain the condition of the work site, materials, and equipment
2. Prepare for and undertake both planned and unplanned maintenance activities
3. Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets meet operational specifications using engineering processes and techniques
4. Read, interpret, and extract information from engineering drawings and technical specifications
5. Remove and replace rolling stock components safely and efficiently
6. Modify or manufacture components using hand‑tool material‑removal techniques
7. Assemble and install new rolling stock components using approved engineering methods
Fault-Finding & Technical Support
8. Identify, assess, and rectify defects and discrepancies across rolling stock assets
9. Recognise repeat faults and recommend or carry out appropriate repairs
10. Create clear, technical scopes of work for others to complete
11. Support reliability technicians with improvement initiatives across the fleet
12. Provide technical support during in‑service failures when required
13. Offer operational support to users of Hitachi rolling stock
Safety, Quality & Record Keeping
14. Adhere to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards at all times
15. Keep SAP records accurate, clear, and up to date
16. Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working practices
Collaboration & Development
17. Work closely with internal teams and external partners as required
18. Continue to develop your skills in line with new business needs and technology
19. Build and maintain positive working relationships across the depot
20. Carry out additional responsibilities based on local operational requirements
About you
21. Preventative Maintenance and Fault-finding experience
22. AC Depot isolation experience
23. Moveable plant experience
24. Driving Licence
25. Working at Height experience
26. Manual Handling experience
27. Powered plant and tools – air / 110v experience
28. Crimping competence & assessment experience
29. Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations
30. Good written and verbal communication skills
31. Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel
Qualifications
32. HNC or Served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines/Engineering based NVQ level 3
