About the role
Balfour Beatty is delivering one of the UK’s most significant energy infrastructure projects through Net Zero Teesside (NZT). We’re looking for a Site Engineer to join the team in Middlesbrough, supporting the safe and successful delivery of works on site. This is a hands‑on role, working at the centre of delivery—translating design into construction and ensuring works are delivered right the first time.
What you’ll be doing
* Interpret and implement technical drawings, specifications, and engineered solutions
* Set out and brief work activities to site teams, ensuring clarity and accuracy
* Supervise works to ensure right‑first‑time delivery
* Monitor progress and support delivery in line with programme and cost
* Maintain accurate site records, reports and documentation
* Champion Zero Harm, ensuring safe systems of work are in place and followed
* Prepare and review RAMS, permits and safety documentation
* Identify, manage and elevate risks, hazards and site issues
* Support safety tours, audits and incident investigations
* Coordinate with subcontractors and supply chain, monitoring performance and progress
* Support planning activities, including short‑interval control and programme updates
* Assist with procurement and resource planning to maintain delivery momentum
* Maintain awareness of cost and commercial impact, escalating changes where required
* Work closely with Project Teams, Engineers and stakeholders to ensure coordinated delivery
* Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement
Who we’re looking for
* Experience working as a Site Engineer on infrastructure, energy or construction projects
* Strong understanding of setting out, technical drawings and construction delivery
* Experience implementing safe systems of work on site
* Ability to coordinate teams and support day‑to‑day site activities
* Good understanding of programme delivery and site sequencing
* Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
* Proactive, organiser and able to operate in a fast‑paced site environment
* Holds or working towards a relevant engineering/construction qualification (or equivalent experience)
* CSCS, SSSTS (or equivalent)
* Proficient in O365
