We are seeking to appoint a Principal Planning Officer on a temporary basis for an initial period of three months, while we undertake recruitment for the permanent post.
The successful candidate must be highly experienced and able to hit the ground running, with a proven track record of managing major planning applications. As this is a temporary post the successful applicant will need to be comfortable picking up applications part way through and moving the applications on to determination. This includes major industrial developments and residential schemes of up to 200 dwellings. The role requires someone who is self-reliant, well-organised, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
As most of the team work remotely, the potholder must be confident using IT systems and able to manage their workload effectively from a remote setting. Experience with Idox Uniform software is preferable. The role will also involve undertaking site visits, so access to transport and flexibility to travel within the area is essential.
An initial induction will be provided at the office to introduce internal systems and processes. Following this, the officer will be able to work remotely for the majority of the week. Office space is available should they prefer to work on-site more regularly.
We are looking for someone who can contribute immediately and maintain momentum on key applications during this transitional period.
Experience of working in an office environment
Good knowledge of local government procedures and practices
Good understanding of current planning issues and legislation
Extensive knowledge of planning policy regulations and processes.
Knowledge of the Neighbourhood Planning process
Experience of negotiating and monitoring Section 106 agreements
Experience of public speaking/presentation on planning matters
Experience of working with Elected Members
Experience of giving planning evidence at hearings/inquiries
