Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
* Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
* Provide expert advice and support to managers and staff on health and safety matters.
* Organise and deliver health and safety training programs for employees at all levels.
* Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses, and recommend preventive measures.
* Maintain accurate records of health and safety activities, including incident reports and training logs.
* Liaise with external bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other regulatory agencies as needed.
* Promote a culture of health and safety awareness throughout the council.
Qualifications And Experience
* NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
* Proven experience in a health and safety role, ideally within a local government or public sector environment.
* Thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
* Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications and health and safety management software.
