Job Details: Volunteer Activity Lead and Group (co)Facilitator – Reach West
Waythrough launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Our vision is to break down the barriers that stop people getting the support they need to live a life they value. We tackle poverty and disadvantage in communities, through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing and related support.
We have almost 200 services around England – and nearly 3,500 amazing staff and volunteers who run them. Every year our services support around 125,000 people.
Bringing together two big organisations is not a small task and it’ll take a while to fully integrate our systems, processes and approaches. That’s why you will notice the jobs here are still branded ‘Humankind’. Next year we’ll be fully integrating our recruitment systems but for now they are separate.

Volunteer Activity Lead and Group (co)Facilitator – Reach West
Location: Weymouth
We are looking for a friendly, welcoming and active volunteer to help us deliver activities that aim to improve overall wellbeing for people in recovery from problematic drug and/or alcohol use. Alternating between wellbeing walks in the local area and wellbeing ‘Flourish Cafes’, you will provide a valuable service that helps people to connect with others, be more active and (re)discover new interests. The role will be split between Bridport and Dorchester so an ability to travel to both of these locations is essential.
About the role
This role combines the duties of a Volunteer Activity Lead with those of a Volunteer Group (co)Facilitator. Each week, or fortnight, dependent on your availability, you will alternate between offering an outdoor walk and an indoor ‘Flourish Café’ in both Bridport and Dorchester.
We have a growing network of Flourish Cafes and see these as places where people in recovery can connect with each other and find out what is available in their local area. They are important community spaces where people can come for a cup of tea and a chat. Some ‘cafes’ also offer activities such as arts, crafts, games, mindfulness, depending on the volunteers and attendees’ interests.
Tasks may include:
* Welcoming anyone who attends, offering a listening ear and facilitating discussions that bring people together
* Setting up a ‘café’, keeping any small kitchen area clean and tidy, and packing away following each session
* Making hot drinks and preparing basic food, such as slices of toast and spreads (Food Hygiene Level 2 required and is offered as part of induction training)
* Promoting and signposting to activities available across Reach and in the wider community
* Recording numbers of attendees, noting any particular topics of interest or signpostings made
* Alongside another staff member or volunteer, jointly facilitate wellbeing walks, ensuring they take place in line with risk assessments
* Facilitate creative activities
* Report any concerns, risks or incidents to the Duty staff or Duty Manager
Full induction training is provided as part of all volunteer roles with Waythrough.
About the project
Reach Drug and Alcohol Service is the commissioned community drug and alcohol provision for Dorset. It provides a range of support, interventions and treatments for adults and young people wanting to make positive changes to their drug and/or alcohol use, as well as supporting family members and running campaigns and events that raise awareness of addiction and celebrate recovery in the community.
Reach is delivered in partnership between Waythrough, Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership and Essential Drug and Alcohol Services. This role is based with the adults service.
Please see the full job description here.
As a volunteer with Waythrough, you can expect to receive:
* Regular supervision and support
* Induction and access to online and face to face training
* To learn and practice new skills within a teamwork setting
* To feel part of a team and the wider Waythrough organisation
* Reasonable travel expenses reimbursed with proof of journey
* Opportunities to progress and experience other areas of Waythrough's work
