Overview
We are looking to appoint a consultant gastroenterologist to help shape services to the local community in the Bailiwick of Guernsey (65,000 people approx.). This is an exciting development in the provision of Gastroenterology services in Guernsey. Increased demand has resulted in an expansion with a change from two consultants providing GIM and gastroenterology services to the appointment of a whole-time gastroenterologist with no GIM commitment. We are now looking to appoint a second full-time gastroenterologist to join the team. They will be supported by a nurse endoscopist and an inflammatory bowel disease specialist nurse. The post holder will be expected to work with established department members and support staff to improve patient choice and enable development of new on-island services. This is a minimum 10 PA per week post with no formal commitment to an on-call rota.
The appointee will be on the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology. It would be desirable for applicants to have accreditation in GIM. The post holder will NOT be required to take part in the GIM on-call rota. The appointee will be expected to act with clinical excellence, good communication, and a commitment to long-term partnerships.
About us
The Medical Specialist Group (MSG) Limited Liability Partnership provides a wide range of emergency and elective medical services for the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It aims to serve the community with high standards of clinical care. The MSG was founded in 1992 by a group of 19 doctors. Today the service is owned and run by a team of 56 consultants. There are no junior doctors in Guernsey, so consultants provide the full range of inpatient and outpatient care. Tertiary care services are supplied by UK Mainland hospitals, mainly Southampton University Hospital, usually through contract services. The MSG is based at Alexandra House and Mill House, near the island’s main hospital, the Princess Elizabeth Hospital (PEH). Our vision is to be internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for clinical care and loved by the Guernsey community. Our purpose is to provide outstanding patient-centred services that improve health of the community we serve.
