We are currently recruiting for a Finance Assurance Analyst to join our team in Edinburgh. In this role, you will perform a range of oversight and assurance activities to comply with relevant regulations including Sarbanes-Oxley and Solvency II. The focus will be on monitoring adherence and driving improvements to controls over financial reporting risks.
This role acts as a pivotal link between Finance and wider business functions including IT, Customer Care and Proposition. You will conduct risk assessment and control testing to assess the effectiveness of the design and operation of controls. Effective communication with process and control owners is an essential element of the role to agree timetables, and evidence requirements, results and deficiency remediation actions.
Key Responsibilities include:
* Reviewing documentation of business processes, risks and controls. Arranging and conducting process walkthroughs to confirm the accuracy of the documentation and assessing the design effectiveness of the controls.
* Developing test plans designed to provide assurance of the effectiveness of controls, primarily those relevant to financial reporting.
* Testing of key controls to assess effectiveness, to identify deficiencies and related control improvements. Liaising with process and control owners to identify solutions to control issues, agreeing remediation actions. Producing and maintaining documentation of the testing performed to satisfy external audit.
* Planning and delivering tasks in accordance with the overall programme of risk and assurance activities of the Financial Controls Team.
* Building relationships with 1st and 2nd line colleagues and others to support collaborative work, whilst also maintaining a suitable level of independence.
* Providing challenge, support and advice to process and control owners within Finance and the wider business to influence them to develop, embed and maintain a strong risk and control culture.
* Delivering reporting and management information to meet the needs of stakeholders, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Steering Committee, Management Committees, Aegon Group and external audit.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
* Experience of Sarbanes-Oxley, Solvency II, and controls testing within a similar finance role.
* Prior experience of working in an oversight role – either in Finance, IT, Risk, Internal Audit or External Audit.
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
* Excellent reporting and analysis skills, ideally using Excel.
* Knowledge of External audit functions, plus related governance and compliance.
* Relevant accounting qualifications, or the desire to obtain them.
What's in it for you?
* We're serious about your future and our enhanced pension scheme is now in place. We ask you to contribute 3% of your salary to your pension and we'll put in 9%. If you decide to contribute more, we'll match it up to a combined total of 20% of your salary (that's 7% from you and 13% from us).
* A discretionary bonus, depending on personal and company performance.
* 34 days leave per year (including bank holidays, pro-rated for part-time).
