Job Description
We are looking for enthusiastic people motivated to share and grow their knowledge, and passionate about working with young people, to become fully accredited teachers. Trainees will study an intensive training year, training in two different schools under highly supportive mentors who meet weekly. Opportunities to gain experience in a special school or Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and with different age ranges of pupils enrich the experience.
Weekly training is delivered at our Training Centre by an in‑house team of phase and subject specialists and by representatives of local schools. Secondary trainees attend subject‑specific training with skilled practitioners; primary trainees experience a varied programme delivered by specialists from local schools.
The collaboration with partner schools ensures trainees receive high‑quality, relevant training and positions trainees for future employment.
Trainees come from a range of backgrounds: those preparing to finish an undergraduate degree or a master’s, those who graduated many years ago and now want a career change, or those who have only an A‑level in the subject they wish to teach. The SCITT can support subject knowledge enhancement, making it never too late to become a teacher.
Our Ofsted report (February 2022) highlights our excellent provision.
Equality Act (2010). The SCITT is an inclusive teacher trainer provider committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity, ensuring all trainees and staff understand the Act’s implications. We welcome applications from all who wish to train to teach.
