Our Opportunity
As a CNC Machinist, you will support manufacture and inspection of high‑precision components, sub‑assemblies, tooling and fixtures within a total quality team environment to meet production schedules and requirements.
About You
Ideally you have served an apprenticeship as a turner or skilled machinist with proven post‑apprenticeship experience. You already possess the ability to interpret technical drawings and apply that information in the programming and operation of CNC machine tools.
Key Duties
* Set‑up and operate major plant equipment, including CNC machine tools, to manufacture high‑precision missile components, tooling, gauging, jig and fixture details and R&D hardware.
* Program shop floor CNC operations using M.D.I. and G codes; create, edit and maintain CNC programs for R&D hardware, tooling and during production runs, ensuring traceability.
* Diagnose and prove‑out programs step by step to prevent equipment damage and ensure correct component manufacture.
* Record, monitor and analyse statistical process control (SPC) data, using control charts to resolve machining process issues.
* Perform post‑process gauging checks (PPG) and calibrate gauges to assure correct part measurements.
* Ensure machine component quality meets drawing specifications and quality standards, maintaining calibration requirements.
* Accountable for productivity and quality, recording quality defect data on the factory management system (FMS) for traceability.
* Progress finished components to other work groups, including materials handling and data entry into the FMS.
* Identify and report errors in process sheets and measurement plans to manufacturing engineering for correction.
* Work in a continuous‑improvement environment to maintain and improve product quality while reducing machining cycle times, lead times and production costs.
* Train other employees and apprentices in effective task and duty performance.
