Overview
The M25 is one of our flagship projects in the UK. It is the most used part of the UK Strategic Road Network, with over 200,000 vehicles per day, and a critical infrastructure asset for personal and goods traffic in and around London. Connect Plus Services (CPS) is a Joint Venture formed to widen, operate and maintain the M25 under a 30-year contract. We are looking for an Inspections Lead to oversee delivery of a programme of inspections, both statutory and contractual.
The postholder will ensure a clearly defined programme of inspection requirements for each asset type, clear data capture requirements, and targets for inspection unit costs. They will ensure inspections are delivered to the required quality and meet contractual and statutory deadlines, within unit cost targets. They will also work with Delivery Leads to determine the delivery strategy for each type of inspection, including use of internal CPS resources or outsourced subcontractors based on defined decision criteria.
Key responsibilities
* Safety: Demonstrate high standards of visible safety leadership; ensure safety considerations are incorporated in the inspection process, promote behavioural safety, and maintain a strong safety culture. Ensure team members and subcontractors work in line with Business Management System requirements and good safety practice.
* Reporting and Compliance: Ensure all inspection activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. Prepare monthly reports on inspection delivery for clients and senior leadership where required.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Act as primary contact for internal stakeholders and clients regarding inspections; escalate critical decisions and unresolved issues to enable timely resolution.
* Resource Allocation: Work with Delivery Leads within the organisational matrix to meet deadlines and quality standards; coordinate resources across internal staff and supply chain partners; define inspection volumes with Asset & Network Planning.
* Process Ownership: Take responsibility for all inspection delivery processes for all asset types, including scheduling, execution, defects information, data capture requirements, timescales and quality; lead on process improvements and efficiencies.
* People Leadership: Lead a large team to deliver inspections on time and to quality; ensure staff development, succession planning and talent retention within the inspection team.
* Budget Management: Monitor and control performance against the in-year inspection budget; implement corrective actions to maximise financial and operational performance.
Qualifications
* Proven experience delivering large inspection programmes across multiple asset types or experience planning and executing large volumes of similar planned work.
* Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team, preferably in a matrix organisation.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and under pressure.
* Familiarity with the industry's safety standards and regulations.
* Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or relevant field OR suitable level of industry experience.
* Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent; SMSTS qualification.
