Deputy Town Clerk & Operations Delivery Lead
Location: Cullompton, Devon
Hours: Full Time – 37 Hours per Week (will consider part time for the right applicant)
Salary: SCP 24–28 (£35,412 – £39,152 per annum)
Cullompton Town Council is looking for an ambitious, organised and proactive individual to join our senior team in a unique and exciting hybrid role combining operational leadership with local government management and democratic support.
This is not a traditional deputy clerk role.
We are looking for someone who thrives on delivery, enjoys variety and wants to make a visible difference to a growing and ambitious community. From coordinating projects and improving services to supporting governance and helping deliver major Council priorities, this is a role where your work will have real impact.
Cullompton is one of Devon’s fastest growing towns and the Council is continuing to evolve in response to increasing responsibilities, service demands and opportunities arising through Local Government Reorganisation. This role has been created to strengthen operational delivery, improve organisational resilience and help shape the future of a modern and forward-thinking council.
The Role
You will:
* Support the Town Clerk in the leadership and management of the Council.
* Coordinate delivery of Council projects, priorities and services.
* Help turn Council decisions into real-world outcomes for residents.
* Prepare agendas, reports and minutes for Council meetings.
* Work closely with office and outdoor teams to improve delivery and organisational effectiveness.
* Support community initiatives, events and strategic projects.
* Deputise for the Town Clerk where required.
No two days are the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied, fast-paced and rewarding role.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
* Is highly organised and proactive.
* Has strong operational, administrative or project coordination experience.
* Can manage competing priorities effectively.
* Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Enjoys problem solving and improving services.
* Can work confidently with councillors, staff, residents and partner organisations.
* Wants to help shape and improve a growing organisation.
Experience within local government is desirable but not essential. Equally important is the ability to deliver, coordinate and make things happen.
What We Offer
* A varied and rewarding role with genuine responsibility.
* The opportunity to help shape the future direction of the Council.
* Local Government Pension Scheme (Currently 18.1% employer contribution)
* Professional development and training opportunities.
* A supportive and collaborative working environment.
* The chance to make a real and visible impact within the community.
