Purpose of Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function on a key Ministry of Defence (MoD) facilities management contract.
Job Description
This role is pivotal in managing client relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
•Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
•Act as the primary commercial point of contact, ensuring client expectations are met and exceeded.
•Identify and pursue opportunities for contract growth, cost avoidance and new business development.
Financial Management
•Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities across Management Units (MU).
•Monitor MU costs, manage financial risks, and ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
•Provide regular financial performance reports, including profit and loss analysis and variance reporting.
Contract Negotiation & Compliance
•Negotiate contract terms with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure favourable outcomes.
•Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals for new work.
•Routinely audit TwC tasks and provide feedback.
•Ensure all commercial activities comply with contractual obligations, company policies, and regulatory standards.
Project Oversight
•Oversee the commercial delivery of projects, ensuring alignment with programme timelines and quality benchmarks.
•Conduct market research to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for innovation or improvement.
•Support the resolution of commercial issues and disputes in a timely and professional manner.
Team Leadership & Development
•Lead and mentor a team of Assistant Commercial Managers and Commercial Assistants.
•Provide strategic direction, coaching, and performance management to support team development.
•Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications/Skills
•Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Quantity Surveying, Facilities Management, or a related field.
•Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a commercial management role, ideally within the facilities management or defence sector.
•Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
•Proven ability to manage budgets, financial reporting, and commercial risk.
•Proficient in project management tools and financial systems.
