The Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide individualised support to a student with special educational needs. This is an incredibly rewarding role where you will make a real difference to a young person’s educational journey and overall development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide one-to-one support to an assigned student with SEN, helping them access the curriculum and participate fully in school life
2. Support behaviour management strategies and implement individual behaviour plans
3. Help develop communication skills and use appropriate communication aids or systems
4. Assist with mobility and physical needs where necessary
5. Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to implement Individual Education Plans
6. Support transitions between activities and environments
7. Record observations and progress to inform planning and assessment
8. Foster independence and life skills development
Essential Requirements
9. Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs
10. Understanding of different types of SEN including autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and communication difficulties
11. Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills
12. Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviour positively
13. Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing needs
14. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting child welfare
15. Willingness to undertake training in specialist areas such as manual handling, first aid, or specific SEN approaches
Desirable Requirements
16. Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, or SEN support
17. Experience with Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems
18. Knowledge of sensory processing difficulties and appropriate interventions
19. Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
