My client are a well-established manufacturing business based in Huddersfield, currently seeking a proactive and experienced Quality & Environmental (QE) Manager to join their team. This is a newly created role designed to support their ongoing drive for quality excellence and ensure continued compliance with all environmental standards and regulations. It offers a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands-on role and thrives in a fast-paced production environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day quality control and environmental management system (EMS) activities. This includes leading and developing a team of three Quality Inspectors, overseeing internal audit processes, and liaising with external bodies such as BSI, the Environment Agency, and other relevant industry regulators. The role is highly interactive, with an expectation to spend around 50% of the working day on the shop floor, engaging with operations and delivering training on quality and environmental best practices.
Key duties will include maintaining and improving the company’s ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System, investigating non-conformances, implementing effective corrective actions, and ensuring robust internal processes to reduce failure rates. The QE Manager will work closely with various departments to align customer quality expectations with operational capability and will use data to drive continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
On the environmental side, the role involves ensuring full compliance with ISO 14001 and all applicable legislation, managing relationships with Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency, and preparing for and leading external audits and inspections. The successful candidate will also support the site’s HSE initiatives and contribute to the development of a positive, quality-focused culture.
This role suits someone with 2–4 years’ experience in a similar quality/environmental management role within a manufacturing or production setting. A solid understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards is essential, along with experience leading audits, managing compliance, and working cross-functionally. Ideally, candidates will also have industry experience in sectors such as engineering or metal finishing. A Six Sigma Green Belt and experience working with EPR permits would be beneficial but are not essential.
Applicants should be strong communicators, capable of leading by example, and have a practical, hands-on leadership style. Flexibility, a positive attitude, and the ability to adapt to changing business needs are key. An HND/HNC in Engineering, Quality, or a related field is required.
In return, my client offers a competitive salary (DOE), 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, a stakeholder pension scheme, free on-site parking, and eligibility for a performance-related EBITDA bonus
