Working as a DCO within our team will provide you with the opportunity to maintain high standards of security and safety whilst promoting the welfare and decency of residents. What we are looking for
Being a Detention Custody Officer demands the people's skills, patience, resilience and professionalism to handle an ever-changing day. Our people come from a variety of backgrounds, you will have the communication and interpersonal skills to support colleagues, work together in teams and deliver an exceptional service to our residents.
Previous experience of dealing with sensitively in a wide variety of people who have been agitated, confused or angry would be an advantage. Excellent problem-solving skills in addition to having the ability to keep calm under pressure will be key to developing your Care & Custody career.
Essential Criteria
8. UK citizen, Citizen of the Commonwealth with your own indefinite leave to remain (not through marriage) or EEA citizen.
9. Valid and in-date passport, with no restrictions on your stay in the UK
10. Continuously resided in the UK for the previous 3 years with no more than 3 months spent overseas at any one time.
11. Be over 21 years of age
12. Specific driving compliance is attached to this role.
13. Full UK manual driving licence with at least 12 months post qualifying experience.
14. Fewer than 7 points on your UK Driving Licence.
15. Have not been subject to a driving ban within the last 12 months (from date of ban ending)
16. Not currently bankrupt
17. The position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act; Successful candidates will be required to undergo Enhanced DBS and vetting to a level of Counter Terrorist Checked (CTC).
Training
Once you have passed our selection and vetting process, you'll begin your Care & Custody career completing a 4-week initial training course (ITC), continuing your development over the next 12 months with on the job mentoring and assessments to gain our accredited Level 3 apprenticeship in Detention and Custody.
