SEMH Learning Support Assistant (Primary) – Bradford

Milk Education are working with a number of welcoming primary schools across Bradford who are seeking caring, resilient, and empathetic Learning Support Assistants to support pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
These roles are highly rewarding and suited to individuals who understand the importance of consistency, trust, and emotional safety. You will play a key role in helping pupils feel secure, regulated, and ready to engage with learning, while working closely with school staff and external professionals.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm (full-time roles available)

What we’re looking for:
1. Experience working with children (professional or voluntary) – SEMH experience is highly desirable
2. A calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach
3. Confidence supporting children with challenging behaviour linked to trauma or unmet needs
4. Strong communication skills and the ability to build safe, trusting relationships
5. A clear understanding of professional boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities
6. Two recent references (work or education-based)
Your role may involve:
7. Providing 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
8. Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement with learning
9. Creating predictable, nurturing environments where pupils feel safe and understood
10. Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and safeguarding teams
11. Supporting transitions, routines, and positive behaviour strategies
12. Encouraging confidence, independence, and emotional resilience
13. Being a consistent, reliable, and positive role model
This role would suit someone with experience in education, youth work, care, psychology, or social care — or someone with strong transferable skills and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children.
