Vacancy – Radiation Protection and Diagnostic Radiology HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist
A Vacancy at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for a Radiation Protection and Diagnostic Radiology HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist to join our friendly team of physicists and technologists.
You will join the team in providing radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics services to Radiology, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, PET‑CT and Radiopharmacy across our hospital sites, with occasional visits to community sites.
Responsibilities
* Provide scientific and technical advice and support for radiation safety and imaging physics, including radiology equipment quality assurance and optimisation.
* Deliver RPA & RWA services, including auditing, radioactive waste management and contingency planning.
* Support MPE systems for Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology, including patient dose auditing and optimisation.
* Provide scientific and technical support for non‑ionising radiation including UV.
* Participate in the development and implementation of the Quality Assurance programme for diagnostic radiography and non‑ionising radiation equipment.
* Keep abreast of the latest technical and scientific developments in Radiation Safety, Imaging Physics and related fields.
* Assist in the development of new QA techniques and in the commissioning and acceptance of new radiographic equipment.
* Assist the Medical Physics Experts (MPEs) in advising the Trust on compliance with IR(ME)R 2017 through audit visits, audit reports and direct liaison.
* Assist the Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs) in advising the Trust on compliance with IRR17, including production of radiation safety and shielding advice for facilities.
* Assist the Radioactive Waste Advisers (RWAs) in advising the Trust on compliance with EPR 2016 and other regulations.
* Assist with acceptance, consistency testing and calibration of radiation monitoring equipment.
* Collaborate in routine review and development of departmental and wider policies and procedures.
* Provide training and supervision to junior staff and trainees in Radiation Safety & Imaging Physics.
Qualifications & Requirements
* HCPC registration required; or in the process of obtaining HCPC registration.
* Completion of an accredited training programme (e.g., STP or Route 2) within the next 6 months to achieve HCPC registration.
* Experience in radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics.
* Knowledge of national guidelines and best practice for radiation safety and imaging physics.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
